What is Scrapbooking?
Scrapbooking is the craft of combining photos, memorabilia and stories in a scrapbook-style album.  It’s an enjoyable outlet for individual creativity with no special skills required or complicated formats to follow.  Each of us has cherished memories, a family history, and unique stories to tell.  Creating memory albums, or scrapbooking, offers us a wonderful way to store our photos.  Best of all, when your work is completed you will have a priceless showcase of memories to share with generations of family and friends.

Know Ur Stuff – the common terms used in Scrapbooking

Acid (in paper)
It is a by-product of the raw materials used in the manufacturing process. Acid is a corrosive; products containing acid will deteriorate precious photographs and memorabilia. Photographs exposed to acid, turn brown, crack, fade and peel.

Acid-Free

Products with a pH of 7.0 (neutral) or higher are considered to be acid-free. Acid will migrate, which means that an acidic item can contaminate a previously acid-free paper or photographs, causing them to become acidic and age prematurely. Thus, it is important to use acid-free paper, adhesives, stickers and embellishments in order to avoid this risk.

Lignin
It is another undesirable product of the papermaking process. Lignin is a fibre that occurs naturally in wood. This fibre will form over acid over a period of time if left in the paper after processing.
