Polymer clays are non-toxin man-made modeling materials that work and feel like ceramic clay, but won't dry out exposed to air. The clays are available in over 90 colours (which can be mixed together to make new colours) and become permanently hard after baking in a regular oven or toaster oven at 275 Degree F (130 Degree C).
To avoid shiny spots on the underside of flat pieces, bake the clay on index cards or baking parchment.
Sculpey brand polymer clays come in several different types, each with a distinctive feel, texture, and finished look. Once baked, polymer clays may be sanded, carved drilled, buffed, and rebake if necessary.
Paint with water based liquid acrylics or Sculpey glazes. When gluing polymer clay we suggest cyanoacrylate gels, silicone glues, dimensional clear adhesives and flexible types of hotmelt glue used in electric glue guns. Translucent Liquid Sculpey is the best way to attach clay pieces together, but the TLS must be baked after "gluing"!
Polymer clay bakes to hard, bisque type finish at 275 Degree F (130 Degree C) 15, 20, or 30 minutes per 1/4" (6mm) of thickness depending on the size of your creation. Pieces that are thicker may take longer baking times.
